About

Custard is a thick, creamy, yellow sauce used as an accompaniment to many traditional British puddings. It is often lumpy and there are inevitably arguments about who should get the skin whenever it is served…
Kirsty McGill acquired the pen name Custard early in her writing career when she authored the children’s books Banana Sandwitches and Slushy Strawberries. Apparently yellow hair and a phonetically similar name are all it takes to become a human dessert!
Kirsty graduated from Bath Spa University in 2004 having studied Creative Writing and Music, but never really settled to one mode or style of writing. She went on to work as an English tutor and as a tour guide on the open top buses around the World Heritage City of Bath - giving live, unscripted performances of the story of the city.
She developed a passion for oral storytelling but continued to work in print for a further two years producing two innovative recipe books (one due to be launched shortly as an online resource) in addition to her two children’s books, published through Tilsmere Publishing.
In 2008, Kirsty completed her MA in Creative Writing and New Media at De Montfort University, Leicester, She is now reveling in the syrupy waters of Freedom To Experiment, working with not just text, but sound, video, Flash and various social networking tools to identify exciting new ways to communicate and tell stories. Where that will take her next is anyone’s guess!
