Blog: Fiction: Intent
Abstract:
The growth of the online blog culture has created huge potential for instalment-based fiction on the World Wide Web, but the multi-purpose nature of the blog format inevitably positions such fictions in a factual environment. For the undiscerning reader, this creates an area where one can access and engage in a range of both intentional fictional narratives and unintentional fictions, where either the creator or the reader (who might also be a co-creator) is unaware that the narrative in which they are engaging is fictional.
This paper examines this boundary and its practical implications for narrative construction in an online environment. It explores the issues and methods involved in creating fictions through blogs, and assesses the potential for creating interesting and absorbing fictions through this medium, thus providing some idea of the scope of possibilities available to writers who are aware of this increasingly blurry divisive line of intention.
